Cooking instruments: air fryer, mixing bowl, whisk, knife, serving plate
Tip: for this dish, you could really use an air fryer that supports a multi-use metal layer rack. That way, you will be able to place the toast slices on the rack and have it cooked more evenly. A model like this Avalon Bay air fryer or something similar will do the trick.
Crispy-Custardy Air Fryer French Toast with a TwistYum
A classic French dish that you just can’t have enough of, especially on those cold mornings, for breakfast. With crunchy edges and a spongy, custardy core, ready to take in any kind of topping, you can even try it for a snack in a lazy weekend afternoon. Have it once and you’ll never again throw away the bread leftovers. Don’t forget to check our tips from the end of this recipe!
Cut the bread slices as per your desire, depending on its shape – you don’t have to remove the edges!
Break the eggs and whisk it in the mixing bowl.
Start by preheating the air fryer and bringing it to 370° F;
Season the whisked eggs from the mixing bowl with salt and the vanilla or the cinnamon, depending on your preferences;
Start dipping each bread slice into the egg mixture;
Have it sit in the preheated air fryer for 2-3 minutes on each side;
Check halfway through the cooking time, to avoid burning;
Take it out on a plate when it turns golden;
Add a small dollop of soft butter on the hot slices and drizzle maple syrup to taste .
Try it with a twist:
The French toast is, indeed, a classic recipe and the combination with the Maple syrup is already giving it a twist. But you can go wild and add, on top of the butter dollop, a generous spoon of apricot jam or… raspberry sauce instead of the Maple syrup!
