As you are about to find out, the Secura air fryer has a practical, simple, almost minimalistic design. On the outside, you have the two knobs, for temperature and time, the latter serving as power-on as well. There’s also the basket handle, with its dedicated release button, and the air inlet and outlet openings. On the inside, you have the non-stick pan and basket, and, as a welcome bonus, a toaster rack with a set of skewers. If you want to learn more about how to use this particular model from Secura, stick around – there’s a lot more for you to find out!
Main Features of the Secura air fryer
The looks of the Secura air fryer might remind you of many other classic air fryers with analog controllers. But the rich selection of accessories – aside from the toaster rack and skewers you also have an air fryer recipes book! – is not that common. In a nutshell, the 120V 1500 Watt 3.2 liter unit measures 15 x 14 x 14 inches and weighs 12.5 pounds. To make the operation as simple as possible, it has nothing more than the time and temperature controllers and 2 indicator lights, for Power and for when heating is in progress.
For guidance only, this 3.2 liter Secura air fryer also has some graphic indicators, time and temperature cooking details for 6 main foods: French Fries, Steak, Chicken, Cake, Meat, Bread. In case you were wondering, the manufacturer’s limited warranty will cover 2 years from the date of purchase. The condition, of course, is to use it according to the North American electrical standards above mentioned. Moving on to its specific features, consider the following:
- 3.4 Qt (3.2 liter) capacity
Again, this is an average capacity. Not the largest you can find, but definitely nothing as small as with other models. The 3.2-liter capacity translates into a cooking tray of 7.5 inches in diameter and 4.25 inches in height. If it’s snacks you’re trying to prepare, you can easily do it for the entire family in one batch. If you’re looking for a main course, it’s safe to assume you can do it for 2 to 3 persons at once.
- Variable temperature control
This analog controller is a plain knob that moves clockwise. It starts at 180° F and goes up to 400° F, with plenty of 10° F increments in between. This will obviously give you complete control over the temperature that you’re trying to achieve. And even though you have no special preheat button, you can let the Secura air fryer run for 3 minutes, at your desired temperature, with the empty basket and you’ve preheated the unit!
- Timer of up to 60 minutes
The time controller is very similar to the one for temperature. It starts at 0 and it can go up to 60 minutes, which is the highest cooking time you’ll find on any other air fryer. Most of them have a 30-minute timer, this Secura air fryer has a double cooking time. And the control options are generous, with increments of 1 minute, which means that every time you turn the knob, clockwise, 1 dot, you extend the cooking time with 1 minute.
- Overheating protection
As important as the overheating protection is, not all air fryers have it. With this Secura model, however, you can rest assured that, whenever an extreme overheating condition is detected, you’re protected. That’s because the unit has an inner temperature control system that automatically triggers the overheating protection when needed. This will stop the unit from working and it will let you know that you have to take it to an authorized service ASAP.
- Automatic switch-off
As opposed to the previous feature, which interferes when the unit overheats and blocks it from functioning, the automatic switch-off is more day-to-day oriented. Basically, it looks at the timer and, whenever it counts down to 0 and the bell sound is triggered, the Secura air fryer turns off automatically. At the same time, if you’ve finished cooking earlier and you want to turn it off, you can directly turn the timer knob to 0, with a counterclockwise move.
How the Secura air fryer works:
This unit is not only relying on a healthy cooking principle, but also on some very user-friendly actionable steps. The place where you insert the food tray with the ingredients is a cooking chamber. Right above the food you the have this heating element, sitting very close to your food, and with a special exhaust fan. The air is heated by the heating element and pushed from the underside throughout the entire cooking chamber. Long story short, the cooking power of the Secura air fryer is given by a grill and a fan.
Maintaining the required temperature and avoiding overheating is possible thanks to a dedicated cooling system. The fan sits on a motor axis and the air that it pushes goes through a set of filters. Moreover, since the new, fresh air is constantly pushed from top to bottom, the unit cools down its internal components in the process.
Hot air is blasted everywhere, again and again, maintaining an even heating temperature in the entire chamber. And just like with a rice cooker, the Secura air fryer has this removable tray where you can place all kinds of ingredients, waiting for it to get crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. A batch of chips, for instance, would require 12 minutes to get perfectly crunchy and as little as a half spoon of oil. But most dishes will take you up to 25 minutes, whether you’re cooking some steak or… baking an entire cake!
How to use the Secura air fryer:
- you unlock the basket and take it out, placing inside the ingredients that you wish to cook (tip – if you let the meats marinate overnight, the result will be even more impressive);
- you push the pan back in, looking to feel that catch that it makes when it was correctly inserted;
- you turn the temperature control knob to a specific temperature and do the same with the time knob, setting the desired cooking time (tip – if you haven’t preheated the unit first and the basket is cold, add 3 minutes to the cooking time indicated in your recipe);
- you might also want to check the food somewhere at the middle of the cooking process, taking out the pan and shaking the ingredients (tip – while in use, never touch any other part of the air fryer than the cool touch handle, to avoid the risk of burn injuries!);
- when the time elapses and you hear the notification sound, you can check your food and, if everything is cooked, transfer it to a plate and enjoy hot and crispy.
